i know this question has probably been asked but what do you normally gain from raising your outboard? i have mine raised one hole. it seems to spray a lot of water near the transom but no water in the boat. if i raise it more will i see more top end, hole shot? it handles good now with no ventilation in turns. it's an aluminum boat with a shallow v.

Without power trim and tilt, about all you can do is try it to see how it performs. Raising will get more bow rise out of the hole and possibly more speed on top end, but if too far the prop will ventilate. Also you may get more speed without ventilation, but the bow rise out of the hole may be unacceptable to you. Without power trim and tilt it is a compromise. Just give it a try.

Re: raising the motor?

i have t&t, i was referring to the engine height on the transom. with motor trimmed up at wot i'm getting 5700-5800 rpm(just right). just wondering what i stood to gain by raising the motor. the av plate is slightly above keel now but i'm thinking i could go more if there is an advantage. maybe better handling or top end.

Optimizing the setup by raising the engine is key to getting the most out of what you have. Just because your at the recommended wide open throttle RPM doesn't mean you have optimized the setup. Raise the engine and see what happens. Continue to raise it until ventilation becomes a problem or you begin to lose speed. Go back one hole and at that point you check engine rpm. If you are over reving you can move up a step in prop pitch to bring the revs back down without sacrificing the speed you gained.

the main thing is to watch you do not loose water pickup.

Well, where is the height of your cavitation plate in relation to the
bottom of the boat hull now?

The only thing I would add is after you have your best height a change to
a stainless or high performance aluminum, like a Hustler, you may be able to get even more height and performance. Some say they aren't looking for more speed but speed usually will improve overall economy.for instance if the new setup goes the same speed at reduced throttle as the old setup your saving fuel and a little wear and tear on the motor.
