Hi - I have a yamaha 200hpdi. Yesterday I ran the engine without realizing that the cooling hose (that you hook the garden hose to for flushing) was disconnected. The engine did not seem to overheat; I ran it for about twenty minutes before I realized the error. I am scared that I might have damaged something, even though the alarm did not go off. Does anyone know if the engine still gets enough water to cool it off, with that hose disconnected?

If it was on a trailer then you did some dammage starting with the water pump and i can not say what else but i would think there would be other issues

No it wasn't on a trailer, it was in the water; the engine did not seem to get hot, I'm wondering if the water pump still manages to push water up to the engine.

As long as you were deep enough for the water to enter the intake, no different than running in no wake zone. You should not have done any damage. If you did not get water, after 20 minutes the engine would have seized.

I must be missing something here. If it was in the water, why would you use a hose?

the hose I'm talking about is the one on the engine, not a garden hose. The hpdi, like most of the newer motors, has a short little hose to the front of the lower unit that you have to disconnect to flush the motor.

is it saltwater or fresh water you're in ?...the reason I ask is that if you are in fresh you don't really need to flush and if it's salt you don't really need to run the motor using that flushing mechanism
