Random Miss While Accelerating

So after taking the boat out around 6 times so far this season, and learning how to slalom well, we've had a bit of an intermittent problem/concern.

After idling around for a few minutes (like passing under a bridge or going through a no wake zone) the engine will miss while accelerating onto plane. Now, the idling part is required to make it miss. It isn't a huge problem, as it doesn't cause skiers to fall or anything, but you can feel and hear the engine miss while accelerating. It isn't a backfire, its more of a cut-out for a split second.

We've been concerned because it is a new longblock we put in last season. But, we winterized well, and kudos to the engine for starting up with 5secs of cranking!

We did not have the carb rebuilt, but it seems to be related to the carb or ignition. Since idling is required, could the engine be loading up real rich like or something?

Guess the only way to know is to have the carb rebuilt soon.

Are you running a fuel-water separator filter? That would be the first place to check.

We replaced that when winterizing, so it's barely been used, but hey, its worth a shot. Cheaper than carb rebuild so we'll start there. Thanks!

It sounds like a rich problem. Have you checked the plugs? Once you are say 20 MPH and throttle up is the miss still there or it it gone? Just coming off idle??
