Yup. Now we know who writes all those. Never would have suspected the coop, though.

(laughing maniacally and rubbing hands together) Noone ever suspects the Coop!

A loan to a relatve should be considered a gift..

I no longer work on other peoples vehicles for all of the reasons listed above. I just tell them that I am too old to be rolling around on the garage floor. Some how they manage to get things fixed and i don't have to do "warranty' repairs or listen to the bitchin. Oh yeah, I bought my sister a AAA membership, no more service calls.

you will probably get about 4 scam emails to the one true inquiry on the van.

I'm with you Oldrod. Since we moved to a condo and I sold the pickup for an SUV, I no longer get any help me calls. ;)

Re: Rant about wife's family

put it in craigslist for $2300, someone will offer you $1800.
...

And we have a winner. I put it on at $2000 and my wife sold it two days later for $1800.

Best part? The cousin that said we were cheating her sister, was here when the guy came to look at the van, and knows how much we sold it for!

That is a perfect ending to this story! Until, of course, we get to hear how the BF found Cousin a car for $2k that broke down on the way home (not really, as I don't want to wish any bad luck).

No need to worry about that. The used car salesman has no intention of actually helping his ex-girlfriend's sister. She'll remain car-less, for a long time.

I wish you had given me first right of refusal on Monty. I would have paid you two grand over 36 months.

Oh stop it already! :) I am beginning to envision you sitting at your computer all day sending out Nigerian e-mails! ;)

Re: Rant about wife's family

I don't delve into family issues and keep them all an arms length away for these types of reasons. While I have given cars to them, I'd never attempt to sell them. As to the van, I still have my 2000 Olds Silhouette which is 99.99% the same as the Montana. I've had much more expensive cars but the van is still my favorite for practicality, ride quality and have spent almost nothing on it since new. Literally nothing goes wrong with it ever. Her loss but you guys seem to live on a road we avoided.

I LOVED my Monty Van. And I love his replacement, Ruby (2005 Chevy Venture). These vans do EVERYTHING I have ever asked of them. And ride nice and get fairly good fuel mileage on long trips. I never spent a lot of money on Monty. A bit for some nitpicky things (power window switch, MAF sensor, lower ball joints) but most of that was right after I bought it. Shoot, I just replaced the front brakes on it in July, 5 years after I bought it!
Hence the reason I knew it was a good van, and I bought another (prettier) one.

The huge achilies heal on these vans was the offset crash test. Watching the Insurance Institutes slow mo video footage of a 30mph offset crash then reading the words little chance of survial for the driver, finally caused me to park it last November. I'm not proud of it but that old Silhouette towed my 4000+ Chaparral for thousands of miles with no ill effects, I've brought home a full ton of landscaping bricks and countless other tasks over the years. In 13 years, I replaced the rear air shocks which were suprisingly cheap, a waterpump (only cheap thing under the hood to fix) and front brakes 2 times and the sway bar expensive but the chinese version was cheap. Things that went out I didn't fix were the drivers side heated seat at about 100,000 miles, the rear wiper stopped working right before I parked it, the heater selector knob got stripped toward the end too. Even the intake manifold is the original which I realize is a ticking bomb. The grand total to drive if for that long was pretty low. Wished all my cars were this reliable.
When I bought my replacement for the Olds last November I was considering a Buick Terraza minivan to keep the 7 passenger seating but just about all the owners reviews I saw were bad unlike the Olds where they were mostly good.

Re: Rant about wife's family

Sorry, I shouldn't have raised the issue, but inquiring minds wanted to know.... :D;)

Ha! Well, Kobe's been trying to drag it out of me for three months, so it was time I fessed up. When I brought home the latest addition to the fleet she just shook her head and asked how many that made.
