Don't feel bad. I tore down a 302 motor my neighbor bought from I think Jasper.
It had (2) standard pistons, (3) .010 over, (2) .020 over and (1) .030 over. With a mix of 289 and 302 rods. And that was just in the bottom end.

Re: Rapido Engine with Wrong Heads?

I have the same '059 heads I ordered for my 305.
I have read conflicting reports about the chamber size as well.
Some report it is a 64 cc chamber while other sites report that it is a 58cc which would be a direct replacement for pre '85 engines with dished pistons.
I have also heard that the intake runners are 176 cc vs 170 cc for the '062's.
In any case, the combustion chamber IS different from the heart shaped chamber of the 350 heads. Not much in that it has the same vortec hump and requires longer spark plugs, but no heart shaped chambers and it has smaller valves.
These heads are correct for a 5.0 L mercruiser vortec but not a 5.7L.
I am curious as to what readings you get with a compression tester?
Please post back when you pull off the heads as to what style of pistons you have. Are they dished or flat tops with valve notches and whether the compression stays the same.
These heads definately do NOT flow nearly as well as the 062's even with bigger valves installed but I think they work better for boats and trucks with 305's rather than the 062's as high end horsepower is not the name of the game but rather torque is.

That's why I rebuild all of my stuff myself. You never know what you'll get when someone else does it.

At this point I am almost sorry I didn't rebuild my existing engine myself...........just thought that Rapido seemed like a good deal and, they seemed to be willing to work with you........hopefully the final outcome will be a positive one.

As a veteran elactronics technician and now a manager of many.........I can tell you that one of the first things I look at is part numbers before I even turn something on...........

What is the saying??...........an educated consumer is...............

I am still hopeful that everything will work out..........Raul is sending me new heads....
