THE WORLDS ONLY COCA-COLA RUNABOUT BOAT
In the summer of 1985, the Baseball Hall of Fame was having a regatta and boat race on Cooperstown Lake and they asked the Coca-Cola Co. to enter a boat. Since it coincided with the introduction of ?new? Coke, they agreed. What they did was obtain an older 1957 14 ? foot Starcraft "V" bottom aluminum ?runabout? and decorated it with official logos of the time ?can?t beat the feeling?, ?we caught the wave? and ?drink Coca-Cola?. These were not stenciled, but actually painted on, as they would a truck. In addition, they painted the inside red, as well as the motor (a 40hp Evinrude) and the trailer. As far as I can find out, it was only used during the new Coke campaign around a few lakes in upper state NY. With the end of new Coke, the boat was put away. It ended up going for sale locally, and I bought it.
This is truly a one-of-a-kind official Coca-Cola item, and besides being a great collectible..it is fun to ride. I have used it on my lake every summer and it runs great (speeds over 30MPH!!). It has a trailer (easy to tow since it is aluminum), a cover, custom made red cushions (the inside is mainly mahogany), a built-in radio, a red gas tank and a red battery as well as the red motor. There is only one of these in the world, and there will never be another!! Boat seats 5.
