Re: Rats are abandoning ship

Generals are not permitted by their oath to question their superiors in public, it is not until they are no longer active can they speak their true convictions whether we agree with them or not.<br /><br />Politicians have power to get us into a war, we still have not learned that chickenhawks do not have the knowledge or direction on how to win one. That is what we have generals for and they not Dumsfield should be in charge once the fight has begun.<br /><br />And dog your comments are such a great example of you knowledge.

The Generals can publicly say whatever they want to just like everyone else. We call it freedom of speech and in theory it is protected by the First Amendment. It would be kind of dumb to put your life on the line to protect a freedom you don’t have access to. I think they didn’t speak ill of the Commander In Chief while on active duty for other reasons.

It is against the Revised Code of Military Justice for an active duty military man to publically criticize a lawful order issued by a superior.<br /><br />He can privately question an order, but once the order is given, he either salutes and says "Yes, Sir" or resigns. That is his only recourse.

I have agree with you somewhat. If only Truman would have let Gen. MacArthur cross the Yalu into China, we would be a lot better off now.

18R, PW2 is correct in the Code that every soldier is bound under, and it is as it should be for the military. However, once they are not owned by the military they regain rights as citizens. Yes owned by, if you do not believe watch what can happen to a soldier who inflicts injury to himself or another soldier out of order.

That is a very interesting thought, and my first response would be to nod my head in agreement. It seems safe to agree that the Korean conflict might have ended with no communists in power in either Korea or Red China had MacArthur been allowed to do as he thought right. But what then? I would never have dreamed that world politics would become so complicated after the fall of the Soviet Union, but it didn't bring about world peace, did it? <br /><br />So, had MacArthur been allowed to defeat communism in Korea and maybe even China, what would have happened next? There's no way to ever know, obviously, but I think we're learning that you can count on unintended consequences...kind of like trying to work an air bubble out from under window film, if you know what I mean.<br /><br />Not trying to be argumentive, just wanted to throw something out there to consider.
