Re: Raystown

Just finished 2 weeks of boating ... lake is frozen solid in the coves and above the bridge. Below the bridge there are ice chunks floating. Some of the launches are iced in, but Tatman Run and Seven Points are open.

Only 1 tent up at Nancy's Camp, and that was 2 1/2 weeks ago. None after the monsoon we had 2 Wednesday's ago. The water was up over ALL the launch ramps at that time (glad for connections and a row boat to get to the dock where my bro's toon was docked). By the following week the water was back to normal. Should be drawing it down again for the spring thaw ... that means the ice will be dangerous because there will be about 5 feet or more from the ice to the water!

Hoping to get out for Muzzleloader season after Christmas. Then my boating will be done till the ice thaws.

That's dedication! I wish I had that kind of dedication to brave the cold, but my boat's been buttoned up for about 3 months now :(

The website is actually fourseasonsraystown.com....... Im looking forward to being on the water in April too. Im hoping for at least one warm(er) day between now and then, to finish the engine swap. I didnt opt for rebuilding the old one, I just dropped in a rebuild thinking it would be faster. Im looking forward to spending the weekends at Raystown with a fresh motor.

YES!!!!! Clems is amazing! Can't wait for springtime to get here...

Clem's IS history. They will not be returning to Seven Points. However, Memories will be there. They are a local Sport's Bar. I have never been in Memories personally, but have quite a few friends that are regulars and LOVE their food. They tell me they have great wings, an awesome grilled chicken salad, etc. From what I have heard, the food should only get better with Memories serving there.

Yep. I've been feeling the bug to hit the water, too.

Actually dragged the 4 Winns into storage in a hurry before a snowstorm. Then dragged it back out about a month ago on a warm day to hook it on the hose and run some Stabil through it. She fired right up, idled right down and purred like a good kitty. I let it run for a good 10 minutes just so I could listen to it. Then dragged it back over to storage, not to be seen or heard from for several months.

Sure would like to be able to be sliding her off at Snyder Run about daybreak tomorrow. See how that works out for me, huh??

Appreciate the kind offer. :D

It wouldn't be the first time I put in with ice on the water. Last March a buddy & me took our boats to Raystown for a spin. We met up in Altoona at 8:00 A.M. and it was 20 degrees.

Again we goofed around in Huntington (doing everything we could think of to stall) it was about 34 degrees when we slid them in. There was no ice on the launch side of the dock at Snyder's. But the little bay on the other side of the dock was ice-covered.

Re: Raystown

Back in the middle to late 70's I broke skim ice with my bass boat on many a morning coming out of Snyder's Run. Since it was only 25 miles from home I later kept one of my boats at Jim's until the lake started getting too crazy on weekends when I wasn't working and had time to use it. Finally moved it down to Deep Creek, Md where my sister had a private dock. Haven't boated on Raystown for about twenty years now but sure had some good times there both on the old dam in the 50's and 60's and later on the present impoundment.

Awww, someone else who remembers the "good old days." Grew up on the old dam ... still miss her at times.

Was just out there on Saturday, water is high and a little "greener" than usual for this time of year. We did have a bunch of alewives floating in the upper end of the lake a few weeks ago, major die-off, probably because of the build-up of CO under the ice. Anyway, we were drafting water for a forest fire that was blazing just off the field on the sharp turn before the launch. About 15 - 20 acres burned, but we were able to get it under control before it endangered any of the homes there. A few fishermen were upset because we left a lane open for them to launch/load, but they were going to get wet from the deck gun! :D

Re: Raystown

If the budget is not in place by Sunday Raystown will be closed at 4pm Sunday. Seven Points Marina and the Resort will be open, since they are private, but there will be no bath houses, showers, sewage pumping, etc. Just an FYI if you are going out Sunday, be back by 4 because they are locking the gates at that time.
