Coming along!

With the cold weather you get up there in Alaska stay on top of the gear oil. Change it and check it frequently or you will have some gearcase issues.

yep, already changed gear oil, and was very surprised to find clear dark very old gear oil, not one bit of water! that is not the norm up here, normally I find oily water or just water, also 3 out of 4 lower units will have the infamous northern crack, this one has so far been a nice surprise. cheers

Lookin' good. Amazing how well the paint has held up. Nice tidy job on the fuel pump conversion too. It's really nice to be able to use a modern, single-line fuel set up and you shouldn't have any issues with it for years to come. Keep us posted!

Nice old motor. Converting to a single line tank set up is easy on those. A lot of later models had the correct hardware and didn't need any outrageouse modifications. When you put it away for the winter, just make sure all the drain holes on the lower unit are clear. If not, clean them out good, so water doesn't collect there and freeze and go POP.

Yep' its been fun, I repainted the recoil starter & Air silencer, if you look close at the air box you can see the pitting thru the paint, Also look at the transom clamp area you can see how hot I had to heat it to get the clamps un-froze. Took off the lower unit today and found a 1/2 inch chunk of impeller fin in the up-spout of the water pump, However the impeller was intact, so the impeller has been changed at least once, the way the chunk was wedged water could still flow past but it was not cooling as well as it could have. as soon as I get it put back together I'll give the lower leg a coat or 2 of rattle can and post the completed project, Then I'll start on the 54 25 Bigtwin..
