I recently purchased a 1974 18ft Aquasport CC. Although it needs some work I couldn't pass on the price & for what I will need out of it. Anyway, I'd like to say I'm a fairly good "Do-it-yourselfer", however, I've never been involved with redecking a boat, applying fiberglass/resin. I've done some research on processes & products, but still have some questions.
So, I removed hardware & obstacles attached to existing fiberglass deck & gunwale. There are plenty of holes to fill on gunwales, and floor is marginal. I sanded the gunwales and the existing fiberglass floor, with plans to non-skid in the end.I picked up the needed sheets of (3/4)decking & SS hardware, but am hesitating to install until I know what I am doing. Any help is so appreciated
Do I glass or resin under the new deck as well as edges & topside?
Should I run new boards tight to surrounding boat walls or leave gap?
What type of primer/paint is good for gunwales & cc.
Do I even need to use fiberglass for any of this, or would the resin suffice?
Thanks, New Boater
