re-pitch question

if i get an aluminum prop re-pitched, do they strip the paint and repaint ? I didn't know the process.

My experience with prop reworks is that when you pick it up for asthetic purposes it is painted with a uniform color. First time you use it the "uniform color" strips off and you have a tiger striped prop. If you want the paint to stay on the prop do it yourself. Strip the old paint off, etch the alum, apply Zinc Chromate primer and an epoxy paint, allowing a couple of weeks for the paint to set up.

Thanks Sir, I hear what you are saying. I just didn't know if they automatically stripped the paint when repitching. I have 2 aluminum props and was going to pitch one - trying to decide which one to do based on the paint. One is like new and one has some paint missing (not real bad)

That question should be asked to the person who is doing your prop work.???

Repitching requires bending of the blades. That can require some heat to soften the material so it doesn't crack and surely pressure applied to reform the blades. Both will modify the existing paint on the prop requiring repainting to "look new". My experience was a once over with a rattle can!
