Re-rebuild an OMC 3.0L carb?

On a boat I bought a month ago, with an OMC 3.0L and Rochester 2GC carb, I had issues with it starting and running. A friend helped me rebuild the carb while at a campsite. We cleaned all the surfaces well, but did not tank the carb nor have compressed air to assist us in cleaning. The carb works MUCH better, but is still having idling/stalling issues, mainly after hitting some big waves.

I have discovered an air leak at the throttle shaft (idle changes when hit with carb cleaner)...

Is it worth taking it apart and rebuilding again (with proper soak time and such), knowing that the throttle shaft will still leak? Or should I just buy a new/rebuilt carb?

I'm looking at this one, what do you think?

For me it would depend on the cost of the carb. I have rebuilt a few carbs and with some I did the sonic tank and with others I did not. I couldnt tell you if it made a difference however there were a few I said I wish I would have just bought a new one and got it over with the first time around.

A rebuild kit wont cure a worn throttle shaft, too strong of a return spring can cause premature wear to the throttle shaft you have to watch, just FYI.

Right now the boat runs, but has some running issues. I need to give it decent throttle to start, even when warm. While running at WOT, it will sometimes simply stall, but usually starts up instantly. Other times, it seems the motor gets flooded and it needs a few minutes to wait before it will start again. All random events with no time line or other action that cause the problem.

Even if I tank the carb, I'm still going to have the throttle shaft leak. The rebuilt replacement I linked above is $238...that seems reasonable to eliminate the carb from any further issues.

Well, how much time do u want to spend screwing around with this carb? Sometimes carb rebuilds just don't work & u have to bite the bullett. With that throttle shaft leak, I think u already know. Slap a new carb on it & go have some fun.

I need to pull my old one off to measure the bore size...then it's time to order one (professionally rebuilt)... I don't want to find a junkyard carb to rebuild, then have similar issues.
