anyone have a good how-to for re-upholstering vinyl seats and side rails? My 1990 Sea Ray walk through needs some inside attention. Are there Sea Ray oems or patterns for upholstery details?
I have the tools and the time.
thanks

Use the old pieces for patterns for the New.....
OR take it to a canvas/upholstery shop....
OR do a web search of upholstery... I'm sure you'll find fabrics,+ tips there.....

Spend your time on choosing the Naugahide, marine use, colour coordination with the remaining colours. An auto reupholsterer should do the sewing. It takes a commercial sewing machine, talent and he has to have an attachment to make the piping required.

I am re-doing my 1990 regal Majestic 210

The Side rails and such are easy on mine... Just stretch the Vinyl over it and Staple with Rust proof staples.. The hard parts are the corners... Takes practice to get it right...
If you are doing it yourself you may wish to get some cheap vinyl to practive with....

As for the cushion I had a professional do them cause I dont have a heavy duty machine or talent to do them... Expect to spend some $$ for this....

Tallman

Re: re-upholster side rails and cushions

re-covered my old 79 210 scorpion last winter. like Tallman said, side rails and such are generally easy, I recovered everything but the back to back seats, which I just replaced as they can be quite inexpensive. now keep in mind, i wasn't looking for a boat show quality job. I did find a fabric store that sold marine vinyl in several different colors. I took some scraps of the old and matched it as close as possible.Use a seam ripper and take apart the sewn pieces and use them as patterns. My wife's singer sewing machine worked fine on the vinyl, as long as i ran it at a slow speed. did break a few needles though..and had to use it on the floor so the fabric could be laid flat as the feed teeth on the machine needed a little help on the bigger pieces. but all in all it came out quite nice. and it was a great winter project. invest in an electric stapler, it will save you hours.

Thanks for the feedback. I found the marine grade vinyl for $7 a yard x 54". The previous owner DID NOT use stainless staples, I will. Cushions do look tricky so I might sub it out.
