Really Dumb Lower Shift Cable question

Hey Everyone!

My Alpha 1 Gen II needs a lower shift cable. How terrible, (or even possible) of an idea would it be to replace just the core of the cable & related hardware and not the sheath? Seems like it would slide nice and the rest of it looks to be in good shape.

Feel free to tell me I'm an idiot, but I wanted some extra opinions.

Thanks!

Inside of the sheath is worn and sloppy, what you suggest might work for a little while, but why. Do it right the first time.

Ayuh,..... Usually, it's the outer sheath that's the problem,..... a groove wears into it,....

I'll do it right. Thanks as always for the input!

save yourself a hassle and get an OEM one.

If you pull the core out of the old one, shove a weed wacker wire back up it, tie it off in engine compartment, slide old sheath out, then use the weedwacker wire to route it properly around the wye pipe etc.

Absolutely! Already have an OEM Kit, bought from the marina next door. Great idea about the string trimmer line!!!
