Rebuiilt Carb still having problems

I had my mercarb 2 barrel rebuilt by a local shop. Put the carb back on and the boat started up first key. Took the flame arrestor off and noticed on one of the two places where fuel comes out of the venturi (can't think of what they are called) fuel was dripping maybe 10-15 drops before it stopped. Is this a sign my venturi is bad or is it normal?

I had the boat running great on land, put the boat in the water started first key. Let the boat idle about a minute when we reached our destination. I went to move the boat to get in shallower water and it would not start without much effort. Last April had full tuneup, fuel water sep.

I am clueless? I know the boat was running rich because of the black soot on back of transom. Tried to fix that today. Could flame arrestor cause it not to start if dirty?

That was over a year ago, did you check for water in the filter?

Could flame arrestor cause it not to start if dirty?

Sure, if it's plugged up, no air gets thru it. Would also cause the engine to run rich.

if the float adjustment is off or there is a peice of debris in the needle and seat area you could have fuel pass through uncontrolled. there should be no fuel leaking from the jet when the engine is off.

87, If the float adjustment was off would fuel be coming out of both venturi cluster? Or since there is seperate jets for each tube one could be off? I don't know. Carbs,Boats, people, women confuse me! But I love it.

I'm not familiar with Merccarb, but for most carbs, idle mixture has to be set on the boat -for mine it is set in gear even- the carb shop would just set the idle mix to a starting point ballpark

The shop did set to factory specs but the carb was not in boat so they could not run on hose. It started up fine, took the flame arrestor off and noticed fuel coming from one of the jet tubes. Did not know if it could be excess fuel in line running to carb or if one of the needles wasn't set right?

Installing a Carb Kit is a Roll of the Dice,...... With 50/ 50 Odds,... At Best....

Boat Carbs have not only Dirt, but Water that gets into them,.....
Sometimes the Water causes corrosion in places that Can't be seen, nor properly Cleaned out......

I'm not saying that Your carb is Junk,+ needs Replacing,........
Just stating the Possibility...........

Bondo, since you think my carb may be junk would it be wise to change to a different brand setup than the mercarb. Or should I just find one that has been remaned from say Iboats?

So set the bloody screws!
Why would you junk the carb - this forum is getting weirder by the minute. Even if you buy a new carb, you have to set the idle mixture on the boat - I suppose you could buy 20 carbs and you might get lucky plugging them on one after another...
