I have a 1977 Evinrude 85hp motor I just bought. I replaced the fuel pump cleaned out the carburetor and let Seafoam set in it overnight. and now it runs like a "scaulded dog" with the water mufflers. I siphoned out the gas and put in fresh gas with Seafoam and let it run for 15 min while I mowed the front lawn.
When I tried to launch it into the lake, it would start easy but would die when I put it into reverse and put a load on it.
I took it to a repair shop and they said it needed to have the carburetor rebuilt and would cost $600.
How difficult is it to rebuild? I have rebuilt several from 9.5 to 20hp but there ae jets on the side under screw that I don't know how adjust.
