Hi

I am rebuilding the carbs on my 1983 Mercury 90hp In line six cylinder and have one or two questions. All three floats for each carb have different numbers on the bottom of them but look the same does it matter what order they go back in. Also do I need to apply some sort of gasket silicone on all new gaskets or are they presure fitted? I has been a little while since I had to do something like this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Rebuilding carbs questions

hello I'm not sure about your motor,but I just redid my carbs,91 merc90 3cyl
and only the top float had the fitting for fuel hose, otherwise they are identical.
I do recommend though to get a good carb soaker,i got hydroseal2 from napa
it was 45$ a gallon but worked amazing, just wear goggles and gloves because
it is very harsh stuff, rinse with water then blow out with compressed air,I found out that it is almost impossible to clean out those tiny holes any other way.
i did not use any sealer on the gaskets and it worked fine, just be careful not to
scratch the mating surfaces, use a plastic putty knife to remove the old ones.
good luck

Ed, Are those sidebowl carbs with hard plastic floats? If so, they should all be the same. Make sure the floats do not have cracks.

Put the gaskets on dry.
