Rebuilding Cylinder

I just received a quote to rebuild the top starboard cylinder for $2000, thats completely rebuilt on a 2000 Johnson 2 stroke 4 cyl. Does that sound about right on price? It is a mechanic that I can trust but I just didnt plan on it being that much. Any help would be great. Thanks!

the top strbrd cylinder/#1 is usually scored for 2 reasons, 1 waterpmp, tends to score the top most cyl and work its way down, the piston normally has 360 degrees of scoring. also the vro pump/gasoilmix pump. which tends to damage more than 1 cylinder. If he is going to do all 4 cylinders 2000 is a great price . I myself would have to charge closer to 2800, as you will want to do the waterpump, and replace the vro pump, the vro alone is almost 400 dollars/ wtrpmp 160. each cylinder represents about 250 dollars in piston/brng/ machine boring/decking the head and cylinder. hope this helps
