I have some questions and maybe problems I could use an expert opinion on.
1. When I first start the motor, it fires right away, even without pumping the throttle. After it warms up, if I shut it off, it will start right up if I do so immediately. If it sits a minute or more, I have to pump the throttle to get it started.
2. The engine seems to be noisy to me at higher rpms. I can't detect a knock, but it just seems generally noisy, particularly toward the rear. It is a growling noise; maybe main bearing? Is this normal for these 4 cyl.?
3. The tachometer intermittently reads high. I understand it may be a poor ground, but there are no wires that are obviously loose. Any other thoughts?
4. The idle seems rough to me, but it seems to run fine at higher rpms.
FWIW, it has a mercarb. If it needs a rebuild, where is the best source for a reasonably priced kit?
