Saw this on Craigslist ...

SeaRay 176 Bowrider for rent. Max 7 persons. 150/day, includes fuel. Boat has bimini top, fenders, life jackets and all safety features required by Coast Guard. Must have prior boating experience. Contact Shawn at XXX-XXX-0416

From Sarasota, there is only access to the Gulf (west) or so far into the marshes (east) that your only danger is aligators...don't go swimming.

Put 7 people on a small bowrider and let them go into the Gulf is a recipe for disaster . .

Or am i missing something here ?

Well, there is a lot of inter coastal in that area. Plus all of Sarasota bay around Ringling wouldn't be so bad...I sure wouldn't let my boat out like that!

I hope the guy has good insurance and gets everyone to sign a waiver..

He must be nuts!No way i would let people take that sized boat out in the Gulf.. Imagine 7 people onboard and stuffing the bow in a wave....Geeze!

My (older) 19' Ray has a capacity of over 1 ton. I run out of seating long before I hit that.
The (newer) 176 is less than half that. Just the opposite.

My take on this is simple - if you have to rent your boat out to afford it, you can't afford it at all.

as a teenager, we use to ski off Anna Maria Island. 16' cobia, bowrider, 115 Johnson. best place i have ever skied in my life.

FUEL INCLUDED! How long would it take before the owner would have to pay the renters? No way I would include the fuel

I wonder what is his power plant and what size is the tank. I have a 17 footer cobia closed bow with a 70hp rude. With 2 adults and 2 good sized teenagers I get over 4.8 mpg. With two 6 gal tanks (less than $24.00) I play a lot and stay all day in the lake. However, we are potentially talking about the gulf and a overloaded boat... I think is crazy... I know the sea ray is not the same boat I have, the power plant will probably will be a 3.0 at 135 hp but still dont sound good.

I did had 4 adults (one pregnant) and the same 2 teens one trip. The boat will not go in plane and suck up one tank in a few hours of cruising from sand bar to sand bar. The speed was not even 18 mph. I did not like that outing although the company was great.
At the beginning of the outing it was 3 adults and the teens. The only way to make the boat plane was having all 3 adults out front, one of them standing against the bow walk trhu glass. After the boat plane the standing adult could sit in the back and i could cruise with no problem.

This guy is nuts. I would not rent out anything even to those I know for fear of a ruined friendship, let alone a complete stranger. Poor guy must be desperate
