Just finished an Emergency Care and CPR update.

Some of us are getting old so thought I might share a little knowledge.

If someone trips and falls, seems to act oddly (not they does not mean always check me for some of my comments) or appears out of character:

1. Ask them to smile.
2. Ask them to raise both arms above their head.
3. Ask them to say a full sentence ie The weather is nice today.

If unable to do any of these call 911 immediately. Strokes can be reversed usually to 100% if treated within 3 hours. Share this with your friends and relatives it may save a life someday.

txwinner, when I took CPR course, they told us (relating to the coloration in their face):

"If they're pale, lift their tail,if they're red, lift their head"

I'm sure it dosen't apply to stroke victims but its something I never forgot.

What about an asprin? I heard a single asprin is they are not allergic is also a big help in the beginning of a stroke.

Not a good thing if it's a hemorrhagic stroke. Could make it worse.

Fully agree with DR about the aspirin: it's a definite no-no in any sort of CVA.

LF's was good one too: wish more people would remember that one or even get it taught to them in the first place.

Why isn't First Aid mandatory subject in schools?
(or is it in the US?).

Re: Recognizing a strokes

:) A CPR and first aid course would be good for every adult!!! Use to keep mine updated with the Red Cross classes!!!!

Last person that I used cpr on was back in 2001 and I was amased how a dozen or so people just stood around without going into action!!!!

i think it would be a good idea to make it mandatory in high school on their senior year!!! ;)
