I have a 1955 Johnson CD-12 5.5 hp. The bracket that holds the recoil starter mechanism is cracked around the center bolt hole. I found a complete unit one E-bay that came off of a 1955 7.5 hp. Will this unit fit my 5.5 hp. All I realy need is the bracket. Thanks

Re: Recoil starter interchange

Hi Captain,
Yes, the '55 7.5 Evinrude recoil will work. They changed them significantly in 1956, as they went to a larger flywheel, single pawl on the recoil, and different footprint for the mounting legs. Yours is the same for 1954 and 1955 model years... In other words, if they look the same, they are the same - there's no confusing a '55 with a '56 recoil...
- Scott
