I've tried to respond here and after a couple scratched attempts I'll just say this, I'm buying the Maxxis
I think that is a good choice. That is what I have switched to as well. All the "hearsay" out there agrees with that pick.

Just to clarify I never said hear say is necessarily bad or we shouldn't accept it. We just have to remember when making a decision that hear say isn't necessarily fact and may be based on incorrect, biased and false information. We all use hear say when making certain decisions, we just have to use a little caution, a little common sense, and what ever knowledge we can gather. Not trying to argue with you bruceb58, just expressing my opinions. My whole point is that most of us know little about trailer tire difference and we therefore rely on what we hear from others. In any event I hope the op finds a quality set of trailer tires and has thousands of miles of uneventful towing.

So, are load range D tires available in the 14" size?

Looks like that Goodyear Endurance is also available in the 14" Load range D. Again, a load range C should be fine for your load.

Agreed , load range C should be fine.
The Goodyear's are an exception as they are offered in "D"
My current tires measure out at 26" tall which seems a bit odd from what I've been seeing.
I need to settle on a place to buy them. Suggestions?

Yeah I'm sure you're right. I'm kinda thinking along the lines of new wheels also. Currently only two of my wheels match and I'd like to squeeze in 1 wheel that matches the others as well as a third tire for the spare. All said and done that puts me around $500 for 3 tires and that wheel. I'm just having a little trouble pulling that trigger.
While I was at the lake this morning, walking my dogs, I noticed there was a tournament going on. So I took a look around at all the trailers. Saw about 50 trailers. Most popular tire was by far the Goodyear Marathon followed by Carlisle HR's. Saw a couple Maxxis as well

FINALLY just placed an order for the Maxxis ST 215/75/R14
The whole process of evaluating what was available was a complete wear-out. Geez! They should be here in a couple days
In the end , trying to get the best possible deal proved daunting. I got a pair of them for $200 shipped.
Now it will cost $50 to have them mounted and balanced :grumpy:
Thanks so much for all the help along the way

Valid points, Lou, Bruce and Sprig,
I've begun to narrow the search/ Maxxis 8008 and Goodyear Endurance are looking good so far

Great choice, I have a brand new pair of maxxis 15 inch tires I also need to go get mounted. Where are you going to get yours mounted?

Out of curiosity, could the shop that you are getting them mounted at get them for you for near the same price? When I bought mine, I was on the road and the dealer just got them delivered within 45 minutes and the price for my 15" tire mounted wasn't much more than what you are spending.

The shop I dealt with was not too motivated to bring this tire in. They would not bring them in for the same price I could get them for ($81 each) They are a fairly high volume shop and I suppose if I pushed it he would have relented. But he never quoted me a price. They only offered one trailer tire, Trailer King. That kind of surprised me as they are within sight of one of the best bass fishing lakes in the country. You can literally see the lake from their shop. Go figure. Their price on the Trailer King was $120 each installed which included a disposal fee of $2 per used tire. All said and done I paid $125 each for what I considered a better tire. That was my main reason for electing to buy online. The price for the Maxxis varied quite a bit. I saw them available for as much as $130 each, untaxed but shipping varied. Some folks were willing to offer it free shipping but of course the price for the tire went up. It's a crazy game retailers play.In the end it seems the bottom line is fairly close. I used to live in the Bay area in California (San Jose). There is so much competition there that most retailers would have a better selection and be willing to get anything at a competitive price. Here in Lakeport not so much. Have a good one

Well it appears that the tire companies feel that people who buy trailer tires, are too cheap to buy made in USA ones. What does everyone here say, would you be willing to pay a lot more to get made in USA tires? It has nothing to do with Trump, it has to do with our standard of living, that can't compete wage wise with that combination of communism and capitalism that is modern China. I for one would pay more, a lot more for a made in USA tire, but a lot of people who moan and groan vote with their wallets.

I definately would pay a lot more for USA made trailer tires - I don't get why they all moved to China. i seriously would pay double. I just recently replaced 14 year old Marathon's on my boat with Carlisle Bias tires - not sure I made the right choice but they seemed to say they had good luck with those. I didn't even know bias tires were still made.

For what it's worth, the only 14" tire I could find that was made in the USA was a Goodyear Endurance. This is a fairly new offering from Goodyear so there weren't any long term reviews. They were on the high end cost wise but I elected to go for the Maxxis as they were well reviewed. Time will tell whether I made a good choice.
