Recommended lower unit maintenance?

I have the lower unit on my Honda 8HP BF8AM pulled partway off while waiting for a new impeller and gaskets for the water pump. I cleaned the surface where the lower gasket seals, cleaned the metal cover plate, cleaned some debris from the water chambers (including getting mud out of the chambers where the small drain holes are) and cleaned the pump housing.

While it is pulled, is there any other maintenance I am forgetting (or don't know) about?

If you are not changing impeller housing, polish with toothpaste and 3 M green very used pad in circular motion for some minutes, new impeller will rotate smoothly and last longer. Change tail oil. Grease shaft splines & prop shaft when assembling back.
