Reconnecting the shift rod after dropping lower end

Had to drop lower end on my '98 Johnson 90 HP outboard. <br />Got the shift rod disconnected to allow the lower end to be dropped... but had a helluva time getting the rod reconnected on re-assembly. Had to loosen the pans just to be able to get a glimpse at what I was doing. Still took a ton of time and effort to get the pin back into the rod's hole...<br />Please let me know if there are any secrets to this process for the next time.<br />Thanks

Two people is always helpful. one to hold the rod from turning and twisting while you work the pin. my son and I do it very quick. no real tricks to speak of. sorry.

Next time take the port side half of the pan completely off.
