ok so i just bought a new rectifier for my j140tlcim johnson and its got two yellow wires coming out but neither of them have a grey stripe so my question is does it matter which one i hook up and where so long as its yellow to yellow and red to the red?

Re: rectifier hookup

yellow goes to stator.... stator produces alternating current no big deal there. red goes to battery/charging/positive.

Did that answer your question?

Re: rectifier hookup

FWIW Levi I have a 1988 90HP and one of the stator tests is to make sure there are no ground faults in the stator, this indicates that there is supposed to be no ground within the stator circuit. This in turn means that there is no potential difference between the stator wires & the rest of the electrical system until after the stator has been connected and then the rectifier does the grounding.
Bottom line, it shouldn't make any difference which yellow goes where.
