Rectifier Issue '94 200 Vindicator

'94 200 Vindicator Model E200STLERK

Will a bad rectifier cause an abnormal high use of oil from my reservior?

Will it also cause erratic engine idling?

Finally, will it prevent my batteries from charging up to 12.5 v?

I believe the answers are:

No

Yes



#1 is no because the VRO is strictly mechanical. The only electrical bits are for the alarm horns.

#2 is no because the rectifier is isolated from the ignition system. It's strictly for charging the battery.

#3 is yes, because that's what the alternator-rectifier combination do.

ok. My batteries are charging correctly. So, is it safe to say that a faulty tach in this situation is probably caused by a bad tach and not the rectifier?

I'd say bad tach or bad sending wire.

The tach reads off of one side of the charge. You could still have a bad rectifier, on one side and still get some charge. Switch your grey lead on the terminal board from the yellow / grey terminal to the yellow terminal. If the tach now works your rectifier is bad on one side. If it still doesn't work and it's charging, then look at the tach and related wiring.
