Could a faulty rectifier be the cause of some tach troubles?
Ive determined my 3 wire rectifier needs to be replaced. ( no continuity between red/yel gry wires ) I know more than likely caused by me running w/ no battery. And a lightbulb clicked on, my tach will work on initial start up, but then like goes or pegs all the way to other side (like 5 oclock area) it is a new tach. Thanks ,,,,,,,,,, Joe

Retifier trouble will make tach not work right you can test by taking grey wire that goes to tach loose at motor wire strip and move it to grey/yellow wire off rectifier at strip and I bet tach will work properly.

Re: rectifier or tachometer trouble?

I have a new rectifier on ordr, and anyway power head is being rebuilt right now. Just trying to get ahead of other trouble, like tach and charging issues. I ignored those troubles before, cause I just carried 2 batteries and ignored tach as long as boat got on plane and got me to my fishing grounds, thats all i cared about! Thanks, joe
