If the rectifier goes out can you unhook the stator and not have any damage to the stator, need to run the boat for a hour or so to check out other problems
Ok thanks didn't want to kill it if it isnt dead already and couldn't find info on it anywhere, anyone know how long a battery will last with it not charging?
Additional:<br />I used to have a 35 hp without a charger. Using a med. size car battery, I could go camping on Sat. morning and come back Sunday. The motor started very easily but I still used the battery quite a bit pulling inner tubes, etc. Whatever you do, don't lug the starter motor with a battery that's nearly dead.
On some motors the stator has more than a charging function. They also supply initial voltage to the pack. If the stator is unplugged, the motor may not start, it depends on what motor you are working on.
It's a 1974 70hp Johnson Model# 70ESL-74m, it has a little melting on two of the ignition coils but still runs ok, haven't unhooked the stator yet but checked the rectifier yesterday and got eratic readings with dig. ohm meter so i assume the rectifier is dead, just didn't want to toast the stater too, but need to run it for a while, this stator has the ign. coils 3, and 6 charging coils. If that helps any.
