I just went through my third rectifier. The stator windings appear ok at 1.2 ohms. I cleaned all the connections from the rectifier to the battery prior to this last failure. The diode that shorts out is between the yellow wire to the tachometer lead and the red wire. Thus the yellow wire that is attached to the rectifier stays at 12 volts. I don't have a tachometer on the boat and there is no short in the tachometer wiring. Could I hook the lead that is shorted to one of the open blocks and get half a charge with the other yellow wire connected. 1976 Johnson 75 hp. Thanks.
