rectifier

I just went through my third rectifier. The stator windings appear ok at 1.2 ohms. I cleaned all the connections from the rectifier to the battery prior to this last failure. The diode that shorts out is between the yellow wire to the tachometer lead and the red wire. Thus the yellow wire that is attached to the rectifier stays at 12 volts. I don't have a tachometer on the boat and there is no short in the tachometer wiring. Could I hook the lead that is shorted to one of the open blocks and get half a charge with the other yellow wire connected. 1976 Johnson 75 hp. Thanks.

Re: rectifier

Could you tell us which post numbers you have each rectifier wire connected to? The grey tach wire should be capped off at the control if you have no tach.

The yellow wires are on post 1and 3. The read wire is on 5. I would imagine the tach wire is capped off.

Re: rectifier

I would not guess. Disconnect the grey wire at the wiring block if you are not sure. It gets its pulse from the stator yellow wire the same as the rectifier.
