ok I am putting in Boysen reeds. As I am taking apart the blocks. as I am looking at the old ones I can see light through the end tips of about half the reeds. Am I thinking right that this is not right ? they all should seal up right??

Re: Reeds

They can have up to a .007 gap with no problem.<br />I have seen them with a larger gape work well too.

Re: Reeds

Manual will have spec for opening. I have seen some go to .015 . The Boyesen's are very good for a while, but mine went open after a couple of years(3.4L 300hp Merc). I went back to the stainless petals from Merc. Make sure your motor is timed right. I have seen several boyesens with burned tips. If she is starting to Spit/backfire a lot, then it is time to inspect/change.
