I have a 87 150 evinrude. Would not WOT. All ignition checks OK. All compression checks OK. Removed carbs for rebuild. I can see at least 2 reeds missing. Next I am going to pull the intake. I have read that I must find the reeds. If I do not find the reed parts. Can I pull the heads without pulling the whole power head as described in the manual?

Re: reeds

Reeds missing? Eeeek! They must be plastic or you're simply lucky if compression is still in good shape. If they're not plastic, the powerhead needs to come apart all the way to splitting the case halves to find them. Good luck!

Re: reeds

shipale -

Remove the intake manifold. The picture here is weak, but it shows you can see down inside after the reed blocks are out of the way. Determine the reed material; if stainless, break it down. If fiber, the choice is yours.

When putting it back together, if you have Boyesen reeds, be sure to follow their instructions about jet sizes.

Good luck and Merry Christmas!

Hi Shipale

I had exactly same problem, and did a total teardown, only to find reedblades stuck between cranckcasehousing and airguides on intakeplate on side of powerhead. I could have saved lots of time starting there. Morale : remove everything that can be done, BEFORE you disasemble totally, or remove powerhead.

My motor runs fine now - no problems Good Luck
