ok i bought a 14' aluminum V boat from my uncle a couple of years ago. It came with a Load Rite trailer. About 3 months after i got it the axle broke and i had to replace the axle. Well i have the trailer registered and just last summer i bought a 18' sea ray with trailer. The trailer that came with the sea ray did not have any paperwork or anything. It is a Load Rite though just like my smaller Load Rite trailer. I have been swapping the tag back and forth between the trailers as on the registration there is nowhere that specifies the size of the trailer. Really they are not all that different in size and the VIN is not readeable on eather trailer. Anyone else do this so that way you avoid the hassle of the DMV?

Technically you shouldn't, but yeah i know, its hard not to.

I'm dealing with trying to register a boat and trailer that has had three different owners in the last five years and nobody did the paperwork to register them, just kept moving it from owner to owner. The boat isn't going to be that bad, the DNR here in MN is far more accomodating then the DMV, all they need is a bill of sale on the boat and they are happy. Of course that's mainly because 16' and under doesn't need a title here.

The DMV on the other hand is giving me the runaround on the trailer, bill of sale, application for title, proof of previous owner, weight slip, you name it they want it. The worse thing is the trailer hasn't been registered in five years so it has an old license plate on it and they noticed that right away and wanted all the info rather than classifying it as a homemade or otherwise and just sticking on a lifetime registration.

Oh, and before anyone asks why i brought the boat with for them to see the trailer and that plate they asked to see it.
