Have inherited an old alumacraft 16long 48 wide jon in pretty good cond. Only problem is the middle seat was cut out and plywood braces covering the jagged edges and to help with flex the previous owner experienced.
My question i quess......is plywood screwed into the ribs along the full length of each side adequate to make up for the seat being taken out.
I'd like to keep this boat open to carry two young boys and either a wife or a granddad fishing/camping and dont want it if it'll be unstable.

Try it... If it flexes too much, you'll have to add support...

How about .063 aluminum with carpet glued to it and screwed in with #10 SS truss head screws?(or ya can leave it bare..) Works great, weighs little and never rots....Done it to many custom jobs for customers.
