Now I know what I was looking for and needs to be done before removing the lower unit bolts. Obviously you are right it's simple now.

I received my pump kit and it is missing one gasket. I looked at other kits and many don't include the gasket. Should I return it or just use the old one?

The pump kit in the picture in post # 22 is for a 9.9 / 15 hp model.-----Are you buying parts on line or from a dealer that can offer you some old time help ??----So what part # kit did you order for your motor .----From where did you order it ?

Go the water pump installed on the lower unit. I connected the water tubes but cant
see the shift rod coming thru the hole. Is there a way to see and align the rod thru the hole?. The two videos showed a simple shove the lower unit on, insure the drive shift is connected and bolt it down. I am hitting some resistance with a gap at the lower unit of about 1-2 inches.

Got it. The 3-4" plastic water tube had came off the copper tube and was catching on the edge of the copper tube preventing it from going up.

The 2 plastic guide tubes are to be put into the pump first.----They are only there to ensure that copper tubes go into the pump sealing grommets.
