Relocating Oil Reservoir

I decided to replace my 1.8 Gallon Oil reservoir within the next few days. It has never been done, and I want to have a clean one instead of the cruddy one that's in there now. The boat is 12 years old, and I can't see how much oil is in the tank without using a dipstick to check the levels. The sides are caked with residue, and I'll feel better once it is done.

As the reservoir sits presently it is in a tight location. It is located in the starboard - aft of the fuel tank compartment located at the back of the boat. It sits between my battery and the starboard side with only a few inches to maneuver when I decide to unscrew the filling cap, and refill it with a long funnel. I can't see the level of the oil through the side of the tank just because of the location behind the battery.

Could I install the new reservoir closer to the middle of that compartment so that it would be easier to get too? I get tired of wrestling with the oil reservoir every time it's time to check or refill it.
