Engine is 1988 Johnson 140 looper. The remote control throttle is single white side-mounted Johnson type.
Throttle shifts normally into all three positions when running the engine "on the ears" in the driveway and when first launching the boat.
After running WOT for about 20 minutes the throttle will stick, the handle moves but it will not disengage from forward and I have to force it into neutral or reverse.
Any suggestions?
Also does anyone have a diagram or pictures of the internal parts of this control that I can look at before opening the box?
Other notes if needed: I recently disassembled engine to repair the steering arm and tube. I had the lower unit rebuilt by marine mechanic at that time. This problem started after all this work. Mechanic rechecked or rebuilt lower unit again but problem still happens. With the linkage disconnected at the enging he said it shifts fine into all three positions. Now he wants the boat back saying the problem must be in the control handle. Does this sound right or is he just looking for more money?
