My 225 RO evenrude runs well as is ( with thermostat fitted) but here in South Africa we get pretty high temperatures during the summer especially from November through to February, when day time temperatures are in the 30 to 40 degree c range from 11:00 to 14:eek:o some guys recomend the removal of the thermostat, but I have my concerns, the motor will run too cold and will take too long to reach a optimal running temperature. I do not know if two strokes suffer the same symtoms of four strokes at to low temperatures such as ,bore wash down, higher fuel consumption and more wear while they are warming up, wear might not be effected because of the oil mixture (50:1) Kind Regards William Wright

they are designed to run with the tstat, so they operate at the optimum temperature. there's only one reason to remove a tstat. and that is to change it. keep the tstat. and protect your motor...if it didn't need it they would not waste the money to install it.

The T Stats keep the engine in a range of temps that the engine preforms optimally in. If your remove them this creates an incomplete burn of fuel at some speeds.
This in turn causes carbon build up, carbon = bad.... T Stats =Good.

and also i belive on some motors you need the tstat in to have water run through the bypass, witch sends the water into exaust plates in aid to cooling the exaust, like everone else said keep it in!
