i just took my carbs apart and tried to take out the jets and other internall parts, but some of them just wouldnt come out. when i tried to unscreww them my screwdriver just wanted to strip the screw, the brass. i figured once they were soaked and cleaned maybe all the varnish would be gone and then they would come out. but they wtill wont come out... is there a secret. do i need a special screwdriver.. what gives, i was only able to get 1 out, and i have 3 carbs.. what gives, any advice? i dont wanna strip them...

mike

phatmanmike@yahoo.com

Re: remove jets

I recently rebuilt mine and had the same problem with the stripped plugs and difficulty in removal. I had another parts motor and pooled everything together from the other set of carburetors to get them back together again (what a headache..). In my case, soaking them overnight did help. With ones that were stripped I took a hacksaw and sawed diagonally across the stripped slot to create a new one--and then unscrewed it. Maybe you can find new plugs or something that will work at a hardware store if the others are too damaged to reuse. I empathize because it was very frustrating.

Re: remove jets

I also stripped one of my jets and could not get it out, so had to use another carburetor. On the others, I didn't bother to remove the jets--but did remove the idle restriction tube, idle speed screw/spring, fuel nozzle and plugs before soaking. You could probably get by without removing them I would think, unless you were looking to change sizes?
