Remove OEM voltage regulator?

I am going to put the alternator conversion on my Merc 170. In the directions it says that removing the OEM voltage regulator is up to the owner. Does anybody have any experience or thoughts on this one? Any advantages/disadvantages to leaving it or taking it off? Thanks in advance for any direction!

The regulator won't have any wires on it anymore, the only reason to leave it there is to be used to hook the 2 water hoses together. Remove it, and you will have to get a hose to hose adapter.

So just leave it !! You need those two hoses connected.
