Removing helm cable

I've got the Teleflex Safe-T steering and I want to reroute the cable. I took the cover off the console and cut everything away from the cable, the underskinning is off and I am sure I can pull the cable all the way out by loosening the helm end and pulling it down through the deck. It is not routed on top of the log in the M brackets but down the side of the M bracket secured by conduit clamps, then at the last 2 feet up over the M bracket and out the end on top of the tube. I want to put it either all the way on top or all the way down the side, whichever gives me the most free steering. I will also do the "bag O' lube" trick while I have it free

I am also going to go with a NFB 4.2 rotary helm so I have to get the cable out.

I pulled the clevis pin out and expected the wheel to just push the cable out of the helm when I turned it in the right direction, but it won't come out. Is there some other step I am missing, another pin, screw?

I know I could search for the answer but I also know someone on here has done this and will be able to help me.

There is a hole behind where the clevis pin is stored. push the clevis pin into the hole and pull on the outer sheath, then turn the wheel to unwind the cable.

Ya, I think it has an oblong washer on a spring that sets in a groove, as Jeepman said push that out of the way and it should come out.
