Hi all

Does anybody have any tips for removing the registration letters from the hull? I just bought a used boat and need to take the old numbers off but, after 10 years, they seem pretty well stuck there and obviously I don't want to take a scraper to them. Any ideas for easy, scratch free removal?

Thanks
Mitch

There is a product called "Sticker-off" that is made for that kind of stuff.

Sometimes a heat gun (or a lot of patience with a hair dryer) can help loosen the glue

Oh yeah and just be careful you don't over heat it, if it isn't working you don't want to force it. Pretty sure the heat can't be that good for the hull or the paint.

A heat gun (or a lot of patience with a hair dryer) will loosen the glue. Use the heat gun on it's low setting (most have high and low) and warm up one number at a time (hold the gun 6 to 8 inches from the decal. Check temperature often by removing heat and working on peeling the sticker. Too warm and ths sticker will come off in itty bitty pieces instead of bigger chunks and you may damage the gel coat/paint.
Don't over heat and be patient. Any glue residue can be cleaned up with Goo Gone.

This comes from experience removing decals from commercial vehicles to replace the decals with new ones.

Heat, use a blower. I used my propane torch on mine but it was very controlled. It came off like butter! BTW, as far as I know every effort to remove this label is going to require you to use someting to scrape the letters out. Just make sure you use plastic. That is what I did.
