How do I remove the idle tubes on my carbs? Carbs are WE-9. Everything else is removed except needle seat whiich is pressed in (i think). Do I tap them from the inside of the carb with something flat and out through the top?

Don't touch'em. They're so delicate that you'll probably damage them. Just take some carb cleaner and a small piece of wire and clean them out. If you have some compressed air, blow them out after cleaning.

Typically, there is a very small welch plug on the top of the carburetor that you have to remove. That will expose the passage or channel that the idle tube is pressed in to. You need a punch that is the exact same diameter of the tube and drive it out toward the bottom of the carb. Seen many folks try to remove them. Most end up damaging them. It's not worth taking the chance.

Ok I will leave them alone. Hopefully the carb kits come with a welsh plug. This may sound like a silly question but has anyone tried to polish the carb throats?

Polishing the carb throats will gain you a whopping 0 horsepower. It is an excercise in futility and should be done only if you want the carbs to look pretty. I might do something like that, but Tony Shalub (Mr. Monk) is my hero.

Seroiusly, the ratio of butterly area to venturi area is so great that the additional airflow due to polished surfaces at full throttle is negligible. However, that said, different model carbs DO use different inlet and butterfly diameters to increase horsepower.
