Re: Removing old gel coat

First...after you sanded the deck did you clean it WELL with acetone?
What was the air temp when you applied the first coat?
How long did you wait to apply the second coat? Did you apply the "blue crap" between first and second coat or only after the second coat? How long after second coat did you apply "blue crap"? How thick did you apply the coats? There are a lot of different variables that can make or break a gelcoat job. We need more answers to help us help you.

That sounds about right. He said it has to go down immediately after it dries. But the place i got it from was west coast marine in Tampa.

No i did not clean it with acetone. And after the first coat with the crappy gel coat I put the blue stuff on about an hour after I rolled it on. But the second coat was with gel coat that had wax in it and dried smooth. I did that the next day. It was about 80 degrees outside when I did it.

Im gonna try to help you out here mate .. Step by step.

1. What grit sandpaper did you prep the old surface with.
2. What did you use to Clean the old surface prior to your gel application.
3. Did you thin the gelcoat at all.
4. OK.. you put a coat of gel and the "blue stuff". Im thinking this is a surfacing agent ? Dykem ? or was it Cobalt ?!
5. Did you remove the blue stuff before the second coat of gel.
6. Did you sand before the second coat of gel.

If you can answer these questions then we can proceed.

Please try to find out exactly what this "blue stuff" is.

YD.
