I need your help! I am parting out an old boat which has an OMC electric shift 800 series stringer drive. (I thought briefly of trying to restore it, then my sanity kicked in
) It's actually kind of a shame, since the hull is sold as a rock and is a nice design for offshore stuff. It is a 1977 24' Seawind.
Anyway, I want to remove and sell the outdrive and haven't messed with any OMC stuff in over 15 years. (In fact, this is my brother's old boat that I actually rebuilt the engine for - probably 20 years ago. It had a Ford 351 engine that is now shot, but the outdrive is good. Well... as good as a 31 year old electric shift can be!)
Anyway.... What's the procedure for removing the drive? I am familiar with Merc stuff - but not OMC. I plan on removing it in pieces. For instance, taking the lower unit off first. It appears to be held on by six bolts - three on either side. Are there hidden bolts?
Once that is removed, how does the upper come off? Any online manuals? I certainly don't intend on buying a manual for this since I have no intention of doing any work on it other than removing it. Any help is appreciated.
