I have a 2000 yamaha 150hp vmax hpdi and I'm pretty sure I need to replace my shifter cable. The shifter is stiff and is a little inconsistent. The biggest issue I'm having is that the shifter doesn't usually want to return to neutral. Sometimes I can put it in reverse and then it will go into neutral, sometimes not. We have replaced the cables on other outboards before, but never this one. I've got the remote control that is somewhat flush mounted and it's on a bass boat. The lever is exposed, but the rest of the control box is mounted within the side of the gunwale. How do I get this apart? Any pointers would really help.
