Someone on this forum has a rather appropriate cliche that he ends his posts with. It goes as follows: "He who works on his own engine without a service manual has a fool for a mechanic". Service manuals are a time saver and help prevent making costly mistakes that bring you back to this board with even more questions regarding fixes for things you screwed up. They are a most important accessory to any engine purchase whether or not you actually work on your engine. They at least help you learn the components of your engine so you can communicate intelligently with a mechanic if the need arises.

Hooray -- for once I didn't get bite marks on my back side for suggesting purchase of a service manual. Actually -- they are available at most larger libraries.
