Greetings All,
I'm trying to remove the propeller shaft seal from the bearing case on a 79 johnson 6hp. I have it all apart, but I cant, for the life of me get the dern thing to budge. Is there some magic trick to getting this seal out?? Do I need to force it from the opposite side to get it to pop out??? :(

Many Thanks
Nav

Hello Navigator
The book says to use a special tool, it is a puller. I use an old screw driver with a 90 degree bend at the tip. I tap the seal out from the gear end. As always, the proper tools are the way to go. They save time, less chance to goof things up. I most always buy them, when I can find em. Good luck.

Thanks alcan,
I actually have a tool similar to your bent screw driver..haha I'll give it a try this weekend. I just didn't want to force it and risk damaging the bearing case in the process. I may even have a small puller. I'll have to dig through the drawers with the cobwebs growing on them.

Normally I would buy the proper tool, but this motor was a freebee and I'm using it as a "project" so that my step son can learn how engines work. We're going over it one section at a time and I tear it down and he gets to rebuild it. Its a good learning experience, especially when he gets it to run on the first or second pull! sure beats Video Games if you ask me :D

Thanks again,
Nav
