Hello, i have an 85 trophy with a volvo 280 outdrive. i need to have some work done on the tilt motor, fork, ect....long story short i really dont have the money to tie up into fixing my tilt problems right now. What i was wondering is if it would cause a problem if i removed the reverse lock mechanism (so i could raise the prop by hand). i know if i goose it in reverse the prop would come up, but if i were to gently use reverse would it still jump out of the water. I very rarely use reverse, and need the prop raised very often. thanks for your help, joe

Welcome to iboats :) This is a question worthy of the I/O forum......
I would repost it there or maybe the mods will move it over
BTW, I don't think that sounds like a good idea.......JK

Probably not a good idea on that outdrive, no matter how gently you try to reverse it, the drive will kick up and even a little kicking will lead to further damage. try a search on this topic under the I/O forum and you will find lots of info on this.

I finally got it professionally repaired and was glad I did last summer.
